Ken Gierich came to ballpark and meant business on Wednesday, tallying five hits and leading Joliet Technologies to a 18-8 win over Careless Whisper. Gierich tripled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the third, doubled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Joliet Technologies collected 24 hits and Careless Whisper 13 in the high-scoring affair.
Joliet Technologies fired up the offense in the first inning. Dan Steinhouse drove in one when he singled.
After Careless Whisper scored one run in the top of the fourth, Joliet Technologies answered with one of their own. Careless Whisper scored when Rubin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Joliet Technologies then answered when Sean Stukel grounded out, scoring one run.
Joliet Technologies pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Steinhouse singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Justin Gierich grounded out, scoring one run, John Gierich doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Mark Bew tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Stukel singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Gierich was the winning pitcher for Joliet Technologies. He went six innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and striking out one.
Joliet Technologies racked up 24 hits on the day. Gierich, Steinhouse, Bew, David Bedmarkewicz, Josh Kelly, Gierich, and Stukel each had multiple hits for Joliet Technologies. Gierich led Joliet Technologies with five hits in five at bats. Joliet Technologies was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Stukel made the most plays with six.
Careless Whisper tallied 13 hits on the day. Ned and Tom each managed multiple hits for Careless Whisper.
